Wired Router Setup Guide: Method 1
You need to configure your laptop as follows:
1. Open Internet Explorer — click Tools — Connections — select “Never dial a connection,”
2. Click LAN settings — select “Automatically detect settings (A), then click Apply and OK.
Additional Notes:
If your router has restricted the IP addresses allowed, do this:
1. Click Start — My Computer — type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press Enter.
2. The username and password are usually both admin.
3. After logging in — click the second item on the left, LAN Settings — DHCP starting and ending IP addresses, and expand the originally set range: for example, if it was 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.102, you can change the ending 1.102 to any number from 1.103 to 1.199.
4. No other router settings need to be changed. This will completely solve the problem.
Wired Router Setup Guide: Method 2
①. First, connect the broadband modem to the router‘s WAN port using a network cable, connect the LAN port to the computer’s network card, connect the power cable, and check if the router indicator lights are on. If so, restart the computer.
② After confirming the connections, set the PC’s TCP/IP options: 【Start】—【Settings】—【Network Connections】—【Local Area Connection】—Right-click 【Properties】—Double-click 【Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)】, then select 【Use the following IP address】 and enter: 〖IP address: 192.168.0.2〗 or 〖IP address: 192.168.1.2〗 (because default router IP addresses vary, some are 192.168.0.1, others 192.168.1.1; check your manual for details) 〖Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0〗, 〖Default gateway: 192.168.0.1〗 or 〖Default gateway: 192.168.1.1〗 (since the PC’s IP must be in the same subnet as the router, refer to the router manual’s IP address). Then select 【Use the following DNS server addresses】, Preferred DNS server (P), Alternate DNS server (A), (DNS settings vary by region; if you don’t know them, click Start—Run—type cmd—use the ipconfig/all command) to configure specifically. —【OK】
③. Log in to the router for configuration: Double-click the desktop 【IE Browser】—type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (the router’s IP address, refer to the manual) into the address bar. Then press "Enter" to see the router’s setup interface. 1. Enter the username and password, as specified in the router manual. Next 2. On the router’s welcome screen, click “Setup Wizard” next 3. For Internet access, select the specific broadband line you use, e.g., ADSL, select ADSL, next 4. Login method, e.g., ADSL dial-up, select PPPoE, next 5. Fill in the user information, enter the ADSL username and password provided by your ISP, next 6. Choose to obtain an IP address automatically, OK.
④. Set up PC Internet sharing: On the other computer, click 【Start】—【Settings】—【Network Connections】—【Local Area Connection】—Right-click 【Properties】—Double-click 【Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)】, then select 【Use the following IP address】, 〖IP address: 192.168.0.3〗 or 〖IP address: 192.168.1.3〗 (because default router IP addresses vary, some are 192.168.0.1, others 192.168.1.1; check your manual) 〖Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0〗 〖Default gateway: 192.168.0.1〗 or 〖Default gateway: 192.168.1.1〗 DNS server settings, same as above in ②. —【OK】
