How to Reset a Router

Broadband Router Models:

1) TL-R4XX, TL-R4XXX Next-Gen Cybercafe Routers with M1/M2 Lights, and TL-FR5300 Firewall Router Reset Method:

There is a small hole on the front or rear panel labeled “Reset”. Power off the router. Use a pointed object (like a pen tip) to press and hold the Reset button, then power on the router (while still holding Reset). Wait for about 3-10 seconds until the M1 and M2 lights flash simultaneously three times, then release the button. Reset is successful.

Note:

After resetting, the router will be restored to factory defaults. The default login IP is 192.168.1.1; the default username and password are admin/admin. Ensure your computer’s IP address is within the 192.168.1.X subnet (X = 2–254) before logging in!

2) Routers with PWR/SYS Lights and TL-FWR1100, TL-FR1000 Firewall Routers Reset Method:

Disconnect the router’s power supply. Use a pointed object (like a pen tip) to press and hold the Reset button. Reconnect the power (still holding Reset). Release the Reset button after observing the SYS indicator blinking. The router will then restore to factory state.

Note:

Do not power off before the router fully starts; otherwise, settings may not revert to factory defaults. After resetting, the router restores to factory settings. The default login IP is 192.168.1.1; the default username and password are admin/admin.

SOHO routers using this reset method include: TP-R410+, TP-R460+, TP-R860+, TP-R1660M.

3) Reset Methods for Specific Routers:

TL-R420 Reset Method: Press and hold the Reset button for about 2 seconds, then release. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

TL-R400+ Reset Method: Power off, press and hold the Reset button, then power on (still holding Reset). Release the button after about 5 seconds. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.123.254, default username/password: admin/admin.

TL-R400 Reset Method: Press and hold the Reset button for about 2 seconds, then release. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.123.254, default username/password: admin/admin.

Wireless Devices:

1) Wireless Router Reset Methods:

TL-WR841N Reset Method: Without powering off, press the Reset button three times consecutively within 5 seconds. The router will then reboot. After rebooting, the router will be successfully restored to factory settings.

TL-WR3xx/TL-WR5xx/TL-WR6xx Reset Method: Power off first, then press and hold the Reset button. Power on while still holding Reset. Release the Reset button after the system LED blinks rapidly three times. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

TL-WR240+/WR2402.0 Reset Method: With the power on, press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds, then release. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

WR245Ver1.0 Reset Method: With the power on, press and hold the Reset button for more than 5 seconds. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

WR245Ver2.0 Reset Method: Power off, press and hold the Reset button, then power on. After about 3 seconds, the System indicator will turn off and then on. The router restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

2) Wireless Access Point (AP) Reset Methods:

TL-WA501G Reset Method: Power off first, then press and hold the Reset button. Power on while still holding Reset. After 3 seconds, the SYSTEM light will turn off and then on. The AP restores to factory defaults. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

TL-WA200/TL-WA200+ Reset Method: With the power on, press and hold the Reset button for 5-10 seconds. When the WLAN indicator changes from off to slowly blinking, reset is successful. For version 3.0, the IP address is 192.168.1.100, default username/password admin/admin. For version 3.1, the IP address is 192.168.1.1, default username/password admin/admin.

Switch Models:

Switches:

Switches with a Reset button: TL-SL2210web, TL-SL2218web, TL-SL2428web, TL-SL2452web, TL-SG2109web, TL-SG2216web, TL-SG2224web. The reset method for these switches is identical to that for routers: power off first, press and hold the Reset button, then power on. Release when all lights flash, indicating a successful reset. The default management address is 192.168.0.1, default username and password are supervisor/supervisor.

TL-SF2226P+/TL-SL2226P+ Reset Method: Use the TP-LINK SSU management utility, click “Device” -> “Restore Factory Settings”. The switch will restore to factory defaults. The default management address is 192.168.0.100; the username and password will not be restored. Alternatively, connect via serial port and use HyperTerminal or Telnet to reset. (Note: If the regular user password is forgotten, you must log in via HyperTerminal using the administrator password. The factory default admin password is “admin” and cannot be modified. After logging in, you can directly change the regular user password.)

TL-SF2108P, TL-SF2109P, TL-SF2808P, TL-SF2216P, TL-SF2224P, TL-SF2232P, TL-SL2226P, TL-SF2008, TL-SF2117P, TL-SF1016V, TL-SF1024V, TL-SG2008 Reset Method: This series of switches is managed using the TP-LINK SSC utility, which allows login without a username and password.

TL-SF3226P, TL-SF3008, TL-SF3117P, TL-SL3428, TP-SL3452, TP-SG3109, and some Web-Managed Switches Reset Method: Connect to the switch via serial port and log in using HyperTerminal. Before the switch boots, there is a prompt screen. Press CTRL—B to enter the boot menu. When you see “PleaseInputBootrompassword:”, press Enter directly. Then, in the menu that appears, select “3: Restorefactorydefaultsetting” to reset the switch to factory defaults. Finally, select “5: Reboot”. The default management address is 192.168.0.1, default username and password are supervisor/supervisor.

ADSL Models:

TD-W8900G/W8910G/W8920G Reset Method: Disconnect the router’s power. Use a pointed object (like a pen tip) to press and hold the Reset button. Reconnect the power, keep holding for more than 5 seconds, then release the Reset button. The router will restore to factory state.

TD-8820 Reset Method: While the TD-8820 is running, use a pointed object to press and hold the Reset button (restore factory settings button) for more than 15 seconds. Release the Reset button. The device will restore to factory settings. Note: Do not release the Reset button before the device has fully started; otherwise, settings may not revert to factory defaults.

TD-8800 Reset Method: Without powering off, press the Reset button three times consecutively. All indicators will flash, indicating a successful reset. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

TD-8810/TD-8810+, TD-8610/TD-8610+ Reset Method: Power off first, press and hold the Reset button, then power on. Wait about 3 seconds for the reset to succeed. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.

TD-8830/TD-8831 Reset Method: Without powering off, press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds, then release. Reset is successful. Default management address: 192.168.1.1, default username/password: admin/admin.
