CentOS maintainer Karanbir Singh tweeted: “It’s been 12 years since Johnny Hughes and I started working on CentOS”.

CentOS is an enterprise-class Linux distribution derived from Red Hat’s freely available source code. CentOS fully complies with Red Hat’s redistribution policies and aims for functional compatibility. Modifications to components mainly involve removing upstream vendor trademarks and artwork. The latest CentOS release is currently CentOS 7 (1503) , corresponding to RHEL 7.1.
