Many of you have probably seen memory modules encased in a heatsink shroud like this.
So, what’s the main purpose of these memory heatsinks?
They are typically made of metal materials. Besides looking sleek, they are generally used for memory cooling, similar to a CPU cooling fan.
This is especially true for today’s high-frequency, gaming-grade memory sticks, where frequencies commonly exceed 3000MHz. Higher power consumption naturally leads to greater heat generation. Some enthusiasts even overclock their memory. So, effective cooling is very necessary.
Of course, a memory stick with a heatsink isn’t necessarily a good one. On some modules, the heatsink serves merely as a decoration.
