Router Sharing Setup is as follows:
Many broadband users now use ADSL dial-up connections. A single user can connect to the Internet with just a modem, but most ISPs discourage sharing one connection. Below, we’ll walk you through the process of sharing Internet access via a router, connecting the modem to the router so multiple users can share a single broadband connection. You can even set per-user speed limits. Here’s how:
When using a modem alone, you must click “Broadband Connection” and enter your username and password to get online. By using the router to dial instead, we eliminate that manual step. The method for setting up router sharing is as follows:
1. Use an ethernet cable to connect the modem’s Ethernet port to the router’s WAN port.
2. Use ethernet cables to connect your computer’s network card to LAN ports 1, 2, 3, or 4 on the router. (After connecting the power, your computer’s system tray should show a successful connection.)
3. Open Internet Explorer and enter 192.168.0.1 (check your router’s manual for this address) to access the router’s configuration page. Enter the router’s username and password. For most basic routers, the default username and password are both “admin”.
