The CCN Open Source Innovation Joint Lab, established by the MIIT Software and Integrated Circuit Promotion Center (CSIP), National University of Defense Technology, and Canonical, today officially released its first major product in Beijing: UbuntuKylin 13.04.
UbuntuKylin has undergone extensive localization work on top of Ubuntu. This system is an officially recognized operating system by the Ubuntu community, and CCN has built this product entirely following the open-source model. The UbuntuKylin system will also follow the convention of releasing a new version every 6 months. Currently, only a desktop version is available, with phone and tablet versions possibly coming later.
To maintain consistency with the international version, UbuntuKylin 13.04 currently only adds features like the Chinese Lunar Calendar and music search. In the future, Chinese-specific features will become more prominent, with optimizations tailored to the habits of domestic users and the addition of more localized characteristic functions. UbuntuKylin 13.10 plans to include a System Assistant, “foolproof” photo processing, Taobao Dash search, Baidu Dash Maps, an online payment helper plugin, real-time flight and train information……
UbuntuKylin 13.04 Key Features:
1. Dash Online Music Search: A simpler, more convenient music search that helps users discover the latest and hottest Chinese pop music.
2. Lunar Calendar (Traditional Chinese Calendar): A Chinese calendar that makes it easy to look up traditional holidays and solar terms, also includes the Gregorian calendar. It even provides a sticky note function!
3. Weather Plugin: Provides weather forecast information from the China Meteorological Administration, offering a reference for daily life and travel.
4. Chinese Input Method: Uses the fcitx input method by default, supports cloud-based Pinyin input, and features a smarter predictive text function.
5. Collaboration with WPS: Provides the local Chinese office software WPS, compatible with multiple document formats. With its powerful graphic layout functions and rich network resources, document work will be more professional and effortless.
6. The default Office suite is LibreOffice, but you can find and install WPS in the Ubuntu Software Center or on the UbuntuKylin website.
UbuntuKylin 13.04 will be released simultaneously with Ubuntu 13.04. There are still a few hours until Ubuntu 13.04 is available for public download. Please be patient for a little while longer, and we will provide the download link for UbuntuKylin 13.04 as soon as it is available.
